This is the Electric Power Steering (EPS/MDPS) motor & controller mounted on the steering column. It provides steering assistance by applying motor torque to the column based on sensor input (torque/angle signals) and vehicle speed. Simple steering system diagram (for clarity). On RHD (UK) cars this assembly sits under the dashboard near the driver's knees, on the steering column.
UK Nearside / Offside guide (RHD): Nearside = left (kerb side). Offside = right (driver side). Highlight shows the typical steering column/EPS area. Reconnect wiring, refit trims, reconnect battery. Clear faults / perform steering angle & EPS calibration if required.
